Who must be listed on your auto insurance policy in Florida? Florida requires you to list anyone in your household who is 15 or older and holds a valid driver’s license, even if they never drive your vehicle. Many policyholders mistakenly leave off roommates, adult children, or relatives in an effort to keep premiums low. This decision can have serious consequences.
Why Insurance Companies Care Who’s Listed
Insurance companies frequently use undisclosed household drivers as grounds to deny coverage, reduce benefits, or cancel a policy altogether. This often happens right after an accident or claim occurs. Discovering the issue when you need coverage most can leave you financially exposed.
If someone in your household will not be driving your vehicle, you can ask your insurer to list them as an excluded driver on your policy. Staying upfront with your insurer is always the safer option. It helps ensure your coverage is there when you need it.
