Visitation rules exist for a reason, and violating them, even unintentionally, can get your visitation rights revoked.

A few things to keep in mind:

• Don’t bring or accept anything from your loved one. Even passing a small item can be treated as contraband.
• Don’t agree to deliver messages to people outside the facility on their behalf.
• Don’t do favors that could put you or them in a difficult position.

Pay attention. If you notice signs that your loved one is being mistreated, changes in mood, unexplained injuries, or fear, speak up. You can report concerns anonymously.
