Reviewed by Michael P. Maddux, Esq. | Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer | Florida Super Lawyer for 16 Consecutive Years

One of the most difficult realities in personal injury cases is that the at-fault driver’s insurance coverage often does not reflect the true extent of the harm caused.

We regularly see situations where clients suffer serious, life-altering injuries, yet the available bodily injury coverage is limited to $10,000 or $50,000. In many cases, that amount may not even fully cover medical expenses, let alone compensate for pain and suffering, lost income, and long-term impacts.

This gap between coverage and actual damages highlights the importance of understanding insurance policies. Uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM) coverage can provide critical protection when the at-fault driver’s policy falls short.

When negligence leads to serious injury, the financial consequences can extend far beyond the limits of the available insurance coverage.
