Reviewed by Michael P. Maddux, Esq. | Board Certified Criminal Trial Lawyer | Florida Super Lawyer for 16 Consecutive Years

Florida may pass new e-bike safety laws in 2026 that could change how electric bicycles are used across the state. One proposal would require e-bike riders to reduce their speed to under 10 miles per hour when pedestrians are nearby.

What the Proposed E-Bike Safety Laws Would Change

The bill would also strengthen crash reporting requirements and establish a statewide safety task force to study and recommend additional safety measures. These changes are not law yet, but they are moving forward during the 2026 legislative session.

If lawmakers pass the bill, riders who fail to follow the new rules could face fines. Drivers should also pay attention, since the number of e-bikes sharing Florida’s roads and sidewalks continues to grow, particularly in busy areas like Tampa.

Staying informed about evolving traffic laws helps protect both riders and motorists. Riders should stay alert. Drivers should stay informed. Everyone benefits when the roads stay safe. If you were involved in an e-bike accident, our office can help.
