Florida May Pass New E Bike Safety Laws in 2026

Florida lawmakers are considering new safety regulations that could change how electric bicycles are used across the state. One proposal would require e-bike riders to reduce their speed to under 10 miles per hour when pedestrians are nearby. The bill would also strengthen crash reporting requirements and establish a statewide safety task force to study and recommend additional safety measures.

These changes are not law yet, but they are moving forward during the 2026 legislative session.

If passed, riders who fail to follow the new rules could face fines. Drivers should also pay attention, as the number of e-bikes sharing Florida’s roads and sidewalks continues to grow, particularly in busy areas like Tampa.
